It’s midnight. Lit by bright stars and a waning moon, the water calmly rushes below, doing what it must do, gravity leading it down. This is a cherished lullaby to a hard-won sleep.
I wonder what ancient footsteps graced this place, this place that has flowed for almost forever. The moon pulls, the stars turn, the water tumbles. The source of growth for many forms. Who wanders down there now? The golden tree snake from my lazy afternoon, the heron who fished seemingly out of place, the lone bushwalker in the fairy-lit tent? She is braver than me.
I fear this place is too close to home. How will it survive the ill-prepared drinkers of nature as a theme park? But then, I’m lucky. I’m in no position to judge what this place does for others. I hope it infests their soul, however hassled, and leaves its mark.
I see these leaves as stars in their endless swirl around our earth. The night brings a deeper colour, a richer reflection, a stronger sense of lustre and wonder. You may see yourself in the black, reflected within the gentle whirpool. If you do, leave a note on your soul to ponder and calm yourself in difficult times.
Each of these pieces is crafted individually by hand with a flow in mind. A curve, an attitude of calm beauty; thin and fragile, until exposed to a searing heat that strengthens their resolve. They are placed together carefully to create an interplay of movement and composition stronger than the individual and moving eternally.
