Landscapes in Miniature

Living not far from a long wide beach gives much opportunity for walking and obsessing about textures. I trained in geomorphology – a study of landforms – and I’m constantly reminded while walking the beach that the forces of nature that mold our landscapes over hundreds and thousands of kilometres, also appear at the micro level.

The deltas, plateaux, estuaries, bifurcating streams, islands, sand dunes, cliffs, waterfalls, rivers and gorges; all are present when you look to the sand as the tides move in and out. And sometimes, overlain, are the tracks and artefacts of creatures unseen, but moving amidst the everchanging landscape.
